Pilkington 7mm Pyrodur® 105

Published November 6, 2023 by Ben Williams

We have expanded our range of Pilkington Fire Resistant materials with the addition of the 7mm Pyrodur®105 material. This comes in addition to the very popular 7mm Pyrodur® 104 material which we will continue to also offer.

Pilkington Pyrodur® 105 is widely used and specified in a range of softwood and hardwood timber applications. There are a few differences between the 7mm thick 104 and 105 variants and buyers/specifiers should pay close attention to their requirements before making a decision on which type they require.

The 7mm Pyrodur® 105 does offer cost savings over the Pyrodur® 104 material. However, there are also other important differences to note and the 105 material should not be used solely on the basis of cost savings alone. Both materials have their own individual certificates and limitations on sizes and applications and buyers/specifiers check these details closely before making a decision. The Pyrodur® 104 and Pyrodur® 105 materials may look the same, but they are not.

The main difference to note between the two variants is their impact rating and scope of use. The Pilkington Pyrodur® 104 material has a higher category impact rating of 2(B)2, whereas the Pyrodur® 105 material has a lesser 3(B)3 rating. The Pyrodur® 105 material is also solely limited to the use in timber whereas the 104 material can be used in some steel and composite material applications.
