Insulating Glass Units

Improve thermal insulation, reduce solar gain, better sound control

Made to measure, high quality insulating glass units manufactured to EN1279-1 within an independently audited factory production control system. We can make insulating glass units in a variety of cavity widths and in a range of spacer colours, with a choice of inserts including Georgian Bars, Victorian Grill and Duplex.

Wide range of high-performance insulating glass units We manufacture our units from stock with high performance materials engineered to achieve thermal insulation, solar control, sound reduction or a range of special applications. This allows us to work closely with our customers to provide bespoke solutions to their glazing requirements.

We are integral blind specialists incorporating Pellini ScreenLine® products

Licensed processor and fabricator of fire-resistant insulating glass units
We are also a licensed processor and fabricator of fire-resistant insulating glass

Guidance Note

U-Value

The architect, specifier or Building Control may give you the U-value or
WER for the glazing to achieve. From this information we can give you the
required makeup of the insulating glass unit. Please make it clear if your
U-value is a centre pane U-value for the glass alone or a combined frame &
glass U-value. The size of the rebate, in timber frames especially, is critical.
The height of the rebate must be at least 15mm and the width, thickness
of the unit, plus 6mm for glazing materials, plus the width of the
timber bead (normally a minimum of 12mm).

Glass Type

We can assemble units with almost any combination of glass type and spacer. The list is almost limitless. We process annealed, laminated and toughened in-house. Please see our stock list for available materials

Spacer Colours

  • Warm Edge spacer: White, Grey or Black (we use matt bars where possible)
  • Aluminium spacer: Silver, White, Bronze, Black or Gold
  • Steel Spacer – Natural
  • Default spacer colours are Silver for Aluminium and Black for warm-edge when not specified.

Heritage Spacer Colours

  • Black and White
  • Cavity widths Aluminium: 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 18mm and 20mm. (others available on request)
  • Cavity Widths Warm-edge: 8mm 10mm 12mm 14mm 16mm 18mm 20mm
  • Cavity Widths: Steel: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm,12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 20mm

Self-Cleaning

An option for high-level areas where cleaning can be an issue. On roofs, pitch is ideally 20 degrees plus for coating to be effective.

Gas-Filled

We can use Argon, Krypton and Xenon gasses to help units achieve the u-values required. The more exotic gasses can be expensive, so we can advise which combination of glass, cavity and gas will best achieve the results you require for the best price.

Inserts

Georgian Grill – straight or curved in a variety of colours and sizes
Victorian Grill – Gold or Chrome
Duplex Bars – the pitch, the dimension of the flat of the bar to be applied is required. Duplex bars are only incorporated into units that are constructed with toughened glass due to the risk of thermal fracture associated with annealed glass.

(Orders accepted with annealed laminated or float glass are done so at customers own risk of breakage)

Leaded Units

A self-adhesive lead strip is applied to the inner and outer surfaces of the outer leaf of the insulating glass unit. In squares, diamonds and colour film designs, details with any necessary drawings and colour references are required. Standard designs are available.

A variety of lead widths and profiles are available:

  • Oval – 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 18mm
  • Flat – 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 18mm
  • Others available on request

Delivery Times

  • Annealed: 3-4 days
  • Toughened and Laminated: 5-7 days
